AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SHALL CONDUCT AND PERFORM SUCH STUDIES AND SURVEYS AS MAY BE NECESSARY AND DESIRABLE TO DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE AND ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE TRANSPORTATION PLAN DESIGNED TO DECREASE MOTOR VEHICLE TRAFFIC AND CONGESTION IN THE JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, METROPOLITAN AREA; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Mississippi Department of Transportation, in cooperation and with the advice and assistance of local planning and development districts, chambers of commerce, county boards of supervisors, governing authorities of municipalities and businesses and citizens located or domiciled within the metropolitan area of Jackson, Mississippi, shall conduct and perform such studies and surveys as may be necessary and desirable to develop a comprehensive and economically feasible transportation plan designed to decrease motor vehicle traffic and congestion in the Jackson, Mississippi, metropolitan area. In performing its duties under this act, the department shall use employees and resources of the department and may request the assistance of any other state agencies or political subdivisions of the state. The department shall file a report of its study, findings and recommendations with the Clerk of the Mississippi House of Representatives and the Secretary of the Senate not later than January 1, 2002.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
