AN ACT TO CREATE A NEW CODE SECTION TO BE CODIFIED AS SECTION 83-1-45, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE THE COMMISSIONER OF INSURANCE TO ADOPT RULES AND REGULATIONS NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT THE PROVISIONS OF THE GRAMM-LEACH-BLILEY ACT OF 1999 GOVERNING THE DISCLOSURE BY INSURANCE LICENSEES OF NONPUBLIC PERSONAL INFORMATION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The following section shall be codified as Section 83-1-45, Mississippi Code of 1972:
83-1-45. The Commissioner of Insurance may adopt any rules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (Public Law 106-102), including, but not limited to, rules and regulations governing the disclosure by insurance licensees of nonpublic personal information. Rules and regulations pertaining to this section shall be written by the Commissioner of Insurance in consultation with the Chairmen of the House Insurance Committee and the Senate Insurance Committee.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
