Senate Resolution 53
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAREER OF FORMER SENATOR ALGIE DAVIS OF MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, former Senator Algie Arnold (Algie) Davis of Meridian, Mississippi, is retiring after 35 years in the field of public education and two terms in the Mississippi Senate; and
WHEREAS, Algie was respected as an effective school administrator, serving as Principal of Southeast Lauderdale Attendance Center and coaching football and baseball; and
WHEREAS, Senator Davis represented Kemper, Lauderdale and Noxubee Counties in the 32nd Senate District from 1976-1984, serving as Vice Chairman of the Senate Education Committee; and
WHEREAS, throughout his period of service in the Senate and in school administration, he has always been a man whose opinions were respected and whose quiet integrity was the valued example by which others could measure themselves; and
WHEREAS, he is a native of Meridian, Mississippi, attending DeKalb High School and Mississippi State University, is involved in community activities, serving as a Mason and a Shriner, is very active in the Baptist Church and is married to the former Ann Brock; and
WHEREAS, we in the Senate deeply appreciate the work he has done for the youth of our state and for the citizens of his community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby express to former Senator Algie Davis our appreciation for his career in school administration and public service, commend him as a citizen of unquestionable integrity and dedication, and wish him and his family success in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Algie Davis and his family and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
