A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE JOSH CHANEY UPON BEING SELECTED BELLSOUTH MALE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AT THE 1999 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney was selected as the BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney has competed in the State Games of Mississippi in 1997, 1998 and 1999 as a member of the Newton County High School Basketball Team, and as a member of an All-Star Baseball Team in 1998 and 1999; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney was a member of the 1999 Newton County High School Basketball Team which prevailed over all other teams entered and won the Gold Medal; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney participates in athletics for the positive influence and sense of accomplishment it brings, and as a means of building his character in a spirit of competition; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney's positive attitude and sportsmanship are evident in all phases of his life; and

WHEREAS, the BellSouth Sportsman of the Year award honors the foremost male and female sportsman of the year who represent the true spirit of competition; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney was selected Male Sportsman of the Year not only for his athletic accomplishments but also for his exemplary sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Senate to commend the meritorious achievements of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Josh Chaney for his accomplishments and for being selected as the 1999 BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Josh Chaney and his family.
