Senate Resolution 31
(As Adopted by Senate)
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BEECHWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN VICKSBURG FOR ITS EXCELLENT TEACHING STAFF.
WHEREAS, Beechwood Elementary School in the Vicksburg-Warren School District is a Kindergarten through Grade 4 school with an emphasis on math and science, which offers many opportunities to its students; and
WHEREAS, Beechwood Elementary is the only elementary school in the district with two National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certified teachers: Jeanne Chandler, Theme Coordinator and Discovery Science Lab teacher, and Frances Hassell, music teacher; and
WHEREAS, Beechwood also has the Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year, Robin Herrington, who teaches 4th Grade, and the Vicksburg-Warren School District Teacher of the Year, Sandra Brooks, who is a special education teacher; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi may rank last in many categories nationwide, but in the area of national board certification of teachers, it ranks 4th in the nation in producing nationally certified educators, and Ms. Chandler and Ms. Hassell have joined the ranks of 354 other Mississippi teachers which have achieved this prestigious accomplishment, which involve a very tedious year of classroom planning, portfolios, paperwork and an 8-hour test in their specific area; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these four outstanding Mississippi educators whose accomplishments have brought honor to their school, their community and the children they serve, and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Beechwood Elementary School in the Vicksburg-Warren School District for its excellent teaching staff, and wish all teachers continued success in their education and career endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Principal Jack Grogan on behalf of the teachers of Beechwood Elementary School and its students, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
