A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND CHALMERS PATTON "PAT" SEABROOK, JR., FOR HIS INVOLVEMENT WITH AND DEDICATION TO THE BOY SCOUTING PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Chalmers Patton "Pat" Seabrook, Jr., was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 29, 1937; and
WHEREAS, in 1941 he moved to Jackson where he attended Jackson Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, while in school during the 1950's, Pat was a Boy Scout with Troop 15 at First Christian Church, attaining the rank of Life, and enjoying many great camping experiences at Camp Kickapoo; and
WHEREAS, upon graduation from Central High School, he attended Vanderbilt University, and in 1959 received a B.A. in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Seabrook entered the United States Army after college, graduating in 1960 from the U.S. Army Provost Marshal General Center at Ft. Gordon, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, he has since been employed by Seabrook Paint Company of Mississippi, serving as President of the company since 1971; and
WHEREAS, he is married to the former Judy Jens of Tupelo, Mississippi; they have three children, one of whom is an Eagle Scout, and two grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Seabrook has been intensely involved in scouting activities for many years; he has served as Assistant Scoutmaster, Unit Commissioner, District Roundtable Commissioner, District Camporee Chief, Instructor Council Train the Trainer Conference - 1981, Council Camporee Program Chairman - 1980, Council Camporee Program Chairman - 1985, Co-Chairman Council Camporee - 1995, Council Popcorn Chairman - 1991 and 1992, and presently serves as a camp evaluator for Region 8 of B.S.A. Southern Region; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Seabrook has received many scouting honors from his years of involvement with Boy Scouts of America, is an Order of the Arrow Ordeal member, and has received the Arrowhead Honor, the Scouters Key, the District Award of Merit and was named as Silver Beaver in 1986; and
WHEREAS, he is most active in community affairs, having served as Chairman of the Board of the Downtown YMCA, a member of the Executive Board of Andrew Jackson Council Boy Scouts of America, the President of Mid-City Business Association, a Director of the Rotary Club of Jackson, a Dealer Advisory Council Member for Benjamin Moore Paint Company, and is a member of Meadowbrook Church of Christ where he has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Adult Education Supervisor and Facilities Chairman; and
WHEREAS, to honor Mr. Seabrook, this year's class of Eagle Scouts was named for him in recognition of his longtime scouting volunteer activities; and
WHEREAS, this honor was bestowed during the Council's Year 2000 Eagle Scout Banquet, which was attended by more than 400 Eagle Scouts, parents, volunteers and community professionals; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi Senate to recognize and commend selfless devotion to volunteer causes such as demonstrated by Mr. Seabrook, who as a volunteer has devoted so much time and energy in supporting our youth, who are the future of this great state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate Chalmers Patton "Pat" Seabrook, Jr., upon the honor bestowed upon him by the Boy Scouts, and commend him for his years of dedication and hard work in volunteering with the youth who participate in scouting.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Seabrook.
