A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI'S 2000 MISS HOSPITALITY, OLIVIA IRONS.
WHEREAS, Mississippi's 2000 Miss Hospitality, Olivia Irons, representing Philadelphia, Mississippi, is the 50th young woman in Mississippi's history to wear the Miss Hospitality crown; and
WHEREAS, she is a 1995 graduate of Neshoba Central High School where she was valedictorian and S.T.A.R. Student, Rotary Student of the Month, and recipient of the Neshoba County Youth Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, Olivia has been involved in numerous community activities including Relay for Life, school nutrition education programs, and World Youth Federation's "Christmas for the Needy"; she also served as a youth counselor for the Farm Bureau Safety Seminar as well as being chosen Miss Mississippi Farm Bureau and Miss Neshoba County; and
WHEREAS, while attending Mississippi State University on a full academic scholarship, Olivia was involved in many activities on campus; she served as Chairperson of National Nutrition Month, was a member of the Golden Key Society and Kappa Omicron Nu, and was chosen as a President's Scholar; and
WHEREAS, Olivia graduated Magna Cum Laude in December 1999, with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and is currently a graduate student at MSU, majoring in Exercise Science; and
WHEREAS, Olivia's career goals include working as a Registered and Licensed Dietitian, specializing in Diabetic Nutritional Management, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Weight Control; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi's Miss Hospitality is a "Mississippi tradition," beginning in 1949 under Governor Fielding Wright and the Mississippi Legislature; and
WHEREAS, as Mississippi's Miss Hospitality, Olivia Irons will travel approximately 30,000 miles across the nation as an ambassador promoting the state's tourism and economic efforts; and
WHEREAS, it is the custom of the Senate to commend the meritorious accomplishments of the young people of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby take great pride in commending and congratulating Mississippi's 2000 Miss Hospitality, Olivia Irons, representing Philadelphia, Mississippi, and wish her success in her official duties and future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mississippi's Miss Hospitality and copies be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
