A RESOLUTION COMMENDING ROBERT E. PICKETT, SUPERINTENDENT OF THE VICKSBURG WARREN SCHOOL DISTRICT, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, the retirement of Robert E. Pickett on January 25, 2000 will bring to a close an education career that began in 1957; and
WHEREAS, Robert E. Pickett's long and distinguished career has enriched the quality of education for students throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of Robert E. Pickett's outstanding contributions to education, he received the 1997 Golden Lamp Award; and
WHEREAS, Robert E. Pickett has been involved in school administration for 36 years and has held positions of principal, deputy superintendent and superintendent; and
WHEREAS, Robert E. Pickett has been a member of many professional organizations throughout his career, such as the Mississippi Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Mississippi Council of Public Schools, and the Mississippi High School Athletic Association and in recognition of his leadership abilities served in various leadership positions in these organizations; and
WHEREAS, Robert E. Pickett is also a very active member of his community where he has given of his time and talents to the Boy Scouts of America, United Way of Warren County, the American Red Cross, Warren County Port Commission, the Selective Service System, the Hinds Community College Board of Directors, the YMCA Board of Directors, St. Mary's Catholic Church and other civic and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the exemplary service of outstanding citizens as Robert E. Pickett, whose long and distinguished career and contributions have enriched the field of education in the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Robert E. Pickett for his distinguished career and his contributions in the field of education, congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success in his endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Robert E. Pickett.
