Senate Concurrent Resolution 653
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING NAN WATKINS ANDREWS OF JACKSON AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON HER RETIREMENT AFTER 24 YEARS OF SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Nan Watkins Andrews has served with dedication and professionalism as the Official Hostess for the Mississippi State Capitol since 1976; and
WHEREAS, as Hostess, Nan is responsible for meeting the hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Capitol and for conducting tours of the Capitol for varied groups of people, ranging from political leaders from foreign countries and sister states to the young school children of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, her sparkling personality and vivacious manner has enabled her to serve with distinction as a goodwill ambassador for the state and for our state government; and
WHEREAS, Nan has prepared a superb slide presentation illustrating the beauty of our Capitol, and depicting the monumental task of restoration of the building, which she presents to visitors to the Capitol and to various clubs and organizations throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, in addition to acting as Hostess for the State Capitol, the list of activities into which she has in the past poured her energy and considerable talent include operating her privately-owned bookkeeping service, lecturing to school children on traffic safety, acting as a consultant to schools in developing safety programs, teaching gourmet cooking classes and modeling for local department stores; and
WHEREAS, in June 1985, Nan's leadership abilities were recognized by her colleagues when she was elected as President of the National State Capitol Guides Association for a term which ended in June 1987, bringing national recognition to our state by this outstanding achievement; and
WHEREAS, Nan has been lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her husband, Andy Andrews; her three sons, Jimmy, Randy and Wesley; and five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Nan, who has dedicated 24 years of service to the State of Mississippi, demonstrating a positive attitude with great affection and respect for all people:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Nan Watkins Andrews for many years of dedicated and outstanding service as Hostess for the State Capitol, congratulate her upon her retirement and express heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Nan Watkins Andrews, the National State Capitol Guides Association and the Capitol Press Corps.
