A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING GEORGE AND FANNIE FURNISS ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.

WHEREAS, George and Fannie Furniss, who were united in Holy Matrimony on April 22, 1950, at Clarksdale, Mississippi, will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary at a special family gathering to be held on Saturday, April 22, 2000, at their home in Rena Lara, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, George and Fannie Furniss have been blessed with two children; namely, George Maurice Furniss, Jr. and Danny Joe Furniss; and

WHEREAS, George and Fannie Furniss have been further blessed with four grandchildren; namely, George Maurice Furniss, III (Trace), Walter Denton Furniss, Claudia LuAnn Furniss and Danny Joe Furniss, II; and

WHEREAS, George and Fannie Furniss have lived most of their lives in Rena Lara and Coahoma County, Mississippi, where they have been active and productive members of their community; and

WHEREAS, George Furniss, during his lifetime, has many patriotic, civic, community and business accomplishments including: serving in the U.S. Navy, 1945-1946; founding and operating his own business (F&M Electric Company, Partnership), 1960-1986; President of Clarksdale Civitan Club, 1968-1969; Deacon, Rena Lara Baptist Church; President of Rena Lara Water Association for 26 years; member of Coahoma County Board of Education for 18 years; founding and operating Seven Oaks Honey Farm, 1986-present; and President of Regional Beekeeper Association, 1988-1989; and

WHEREAS, Fannie Furniss, during her lifetime, has many family, civic and business accomplishments including: mother and full-time homemaker; charter member of Clarksdale Quota Club, 1975; member of Rena Lara Home Demonstration Club; member of Rena Lara Baptist Church; and bookkeeper for several businesses including family businesses of F&M Electric Company and Seven Oaks Honey Farm; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and honor the accomplishments and achievements of citizens of this state, and especially those who have attained the success of celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate and commend George and Fannie Furniss on their 50 years of marriage and for the love they have shared with each other and their community.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Senator Delma Furniss is hereby designated to represent this body in presenting this resolution to George and Fannie Furniss on the occasion of the celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary at a special family gathering to be held on April 22, 2000, at their home in Rena Lara.
