Senate Concurrent Resolution 629

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HOULKA HIGH SCHOOL "WILDCATS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Houlka High School "Wildcats" boys basketball team won the Class 1A state championship; and
WHEREAS, Houlka Wildcats won a classic championship battle that had over 17 lead changes; and
WHEREAS, the versatile Houlka Wildcats sealed the victory by hitting 12 free throws down the stretch; and
WHEREAS, the championship was the culmination of the 1999-2000 season in which the Wildcats steam-rolled to a record of 33 wins and only 5 losses; and
WHEREAS, this championship game marked the second consecutive appearance in the championship by a group of talented, dedicated and determined seniors on the Wildcat team; and
WHEREAS, this marked the first state championship in basketball for the Houlka Wildcats; and
WHEREAS, the Wildcats were led by All-State seniors Elijah Buchanan, Ervie Johnson and Jock Moore, and seniors Greg Davidson, Jarvis Buchanan, Letrone Gordon, Dustin Eaton, Chris Shempert and Calvin Wright; and
WHEREAS, the seniors were ably supported by team members Seth Burt, Michael Evans, William Foster, David Moore, Torie Naugle and Chris Pratt; and
WHEREAS, the Wildcats were molded into champions by Coach Jimmy Guy McDonald; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this outstanding group of student athletes who have brought honor and recognition to their school and their community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Houlka High School Wildcats boys basketball team for winning the Class 1A state championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Houlka High School Wildcats boys basketball team.
