Senate Concurrent Resolution 605

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING NATCHEZ TRACE ELECTRIC POWER ASSOCIATION UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF SERVICE TO ITS MEMBERS.

WHEREAS, incorporated with the State of Mississippi some 60 years ago, Natchez Trace Electric Power Association was born October 27, 1939, and two months later, Natchez Trace Electric Power Association bought and assumed the responsibilities that served 1,442 consumers with less than 60 miles of line; and

WHEREAS, with only five employees and one truck, the task of serving those first members was proudly accomplished by sound business practices and sheer hard work; and

WHEREAS, shortly after the formation of the association, government assistance such as the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Rural Electrification Act became available, which allowed electric cooperatives throughout this area to grow and eventually provide electric service to all; and

WHEREAS, today it is through the commitment of our founders, the board of directors, our members, and employees that continues to satisfy our consumer's everyday electrical needs; and

WHEREAS, with over 2,000 miles of line, serving parts of seven counties, Natchez Trace Electric Power Association provides electricity to well over 15,000 members; and

WHEREAS, as the sole power provider for its entire service area, Natchez Trace Electric Power Association's goal is to remain the top choice among our members for reliable, low cost electricity; and

WHEREAS, founded on the cooperative form of business, Natchez Trace Electric Power Association takes great pride in serving its member-owners and being a part of over 1,000 other electric cooperatives across the nation, and we take great pride in recognizing the essential service provided by these civic-minded citizens of the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Natchez Trace Electric Power Association upon the occasion of its 60th anniversary of service to its members, and wish it continued success as it enters the new millennium.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be presented to the Board of Directors of Natchez Trace Electric Power Association in conjunction with their 2000 annual meeting, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
