Senate Concurrent Resolution 602

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MICHAEL GOGGIN UPON MAKING PERFECT SCORES ON THE ACT AND SAT.

WHEREAS, Michael Goggin, a Hattiesburg High School senior, recently accomplished the rare feat of making the top scores possible on the nation's two primary college entrance exams; and

WHEREAS, Michael Goggin, 17, made a 36 on the ACT in June and scored a 1600 on the SAT in November; and

WHEREAS, out of more than a million students that took the ACT nationally, only 127 students made a perfect score of 36, including three in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, last school year, two million students nationwide took the SAT and 730 of those scored a perfect score of 1600; and

WHEREAS, Michael Goggin did not take any special test preparation workshops before taking the tests, learning everything he needed in class at Hattiesburg High School; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his academic excellence, Michael also is an active participant in the arts at Hattiesburg High School, where he plays violin in the orchestra and studies Mississippi Writers; and

WHEREAS, Michael has a long list of colleges he has been considering, and has already learned that his first choice, Harvard, has accepted him; and

WHEREAS, Michael Goggin is the son of William and Cheryl Goggin, professors at the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature recognizes and commends Michael Goggin, whose scholastic achievements have brought honor to his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Michael Goggin upon making perfect scores on the ACT and SAT.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Michael Goggin and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
