Senate Concurrent Resolution 581
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING NITA GREEN DEES UPON HER RECEIPT OF THE PRESTIGIOUS 2000 MISSISSIPPI AGELESS HEROES AWARD FOR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
WHEREAS, after 55 years of public service, with 12 years service as Alcorn County Tax Assessor and Tax Collector, and numerous community honors, it came as no surprise that Nita Green Dees was awarded the 2000 Mississippi Ageless Heroes Award for "Community Involvement for the Northern Region" in January 2000; and
WHEREAS, the Ageless Heroes program was created by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association to celebrate the spirit and vitality of our nation's seniors age 65 and over, and Nita and our other Ageless Heroes are nominated for the award each year by their friends, families and their communities; and
WHEREAS, Nita was named Mississippi Senior Ms in 1991 and received a special award at the National Senior Ms at Atlantic City, New Jersey; her community honors include Outstanding Citizen of Corinth, Mississippi, in 1993, and in 1994 a room at Corinth Funeral Home was dedicated in her honor; and she has earned a record number of trophies from the annual Senior Olympics event; and
WHEREAS, her civic commitment is a matter of record as she serves on the following service groups: Board of Directors of the Mississippi Farm Bureau, Board of Directors of the Corinth City Cemetery, Officer in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Officer in the United Daughters of the Confederacy, volunteer at the Bishop Senior Citizen Center and the Jacinto Center for 22 years; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this accomplishment by one of our retired citizens, who reminds us all that our only limitations are the ones we impose ourselves:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Nita Green Dees upon her receipt of the prestigious 2000 Mississippi Ageless Heroes Award for "Community Involvement for the Northern Region," and wish her continued success in her future charitable and civic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Nita Green Dees and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
