A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DEXTER MCCLEON OF MERIDIAN, MISSISSIPPI, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING FOOTBALL ACHIEVEMENT AS THE STARTING CORNERBACK FOR THE WORLD CHAMPION ST. LOUIS RAMS.
WHEREAS, Dexter McCleon, former quarterback at Meridian High School, has reached the pinnacle of professional football by playing in the 2000 Super Bowl and winning the championship of the National Football League as the starting cornerback for the World Champion St. Louis Rams; and
WHEREAS, Dexter was a star quarterback at Meridian High School in 1990 and 1991, leading MHS to the State 5A Championship in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Dexter was Meridian Star Player of the Year in football in 1991, received the Meridian High School Skewes Athletic Award in 1991-1992 as the most outstanding senior athlete, received the Wendy's Area Most Outstanding Athlete Award for 1991-1992, and was selected all-state in football in 1991; and
WHEREAS, after this stellar high school year, Dexter signed a football scholarship with the University of Clemson program and had an outstanding career with the Tigers prior to signing with the NFL Rams; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this former Mississippi athlete who has brought great honor to his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi through his high national profile at the championship level:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dexter McCleon, former quarterback at Meridian High School, for his outstanding football achievement as the starting cornerback for the World Champion St. Louis Rams, and wish him continued success in his future athletic and business endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Dexter McCleon and his family and be made available to the Principal of Meridian High School and the Capitol Press Corps.
