A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING YEVONNE S. PREWITT, COUNTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CLAY COUNTY FARM SERVICE AGENCY (FSA) OFFICE IN WEST POINT, MISSISSIPPI, UPON RECEIVING THE 1999 UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE'S SILVER PLOW HONOR AWARD FOR PUBLIC SERVICE.

WHEREAS, Yevonne S. Prewitt, is the County Executive Director of the Clay County Farm Service Agency Office in West Point, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Prewitt received the 1999 United States Department of Agriculture's Silver Plow Honor Award for Public Service at an impressive awards ceremony held in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, this award is one of the highest that the Secretary of Agriculture can bestow upon the United States Department of Agriculture employees and private citizens; and

WHEREAS, this is the first time that a Mississippian has been selected to receive this prestigious award; and

WHEREAS, with all her outstanding accomplishments, both professional and personal, Ms. Prewitt was tapped from an impressive slate of nominees nominated from all USDA agencies across the nation at numerous levels in a very competitive selection process conducted by the Department of Agriculture; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Prewitt has two sons: Mark, age 21, who is a junior at Mississippi State University, and Scott, age 26, who is a 1999 graduate of the University of South Alabama; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Prewitt is herself a graduate of Caledonia High School in Lowndes County, Mississippi, and furthered her education at Itawamba Junior College and Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, she has also completed numerous USDA-OPM federal training courses; and

WHEREAS, she has been employed by the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency for 23 years, having risen to her current position; and

WHEREAS, Yevonne S. Prewitt was selected as a result of dedicated efforts and distinguished accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, other notable achievements, recognition, and awards bestowed upon her include: Chairperson of the Governor's "Mississippi Woman 1999 Conference"; 1998-1999 President of the Mississippi Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW) Clubs; 1998 "Power of One" Honoree recognized at the "Mississippi Woman '98 Conference"; recipient of National Association of FSA County Office Employees (NASCOE) "1995 Distinguished Service to Community Award"; graduate of "Promoting Rural Opportunity in Mississippi" (PRO-MISS) Leadership program funded by W.K. Kellogg Foundation through Mississippi State University; BPW "1991 Mississippi Woman of Achievement"; recipient of 1990 USDA-ASCS Administrator's National Service to Agriculture Award; and recipient of the United States Baseball Federation's Golden Diamond Amateur Baseball "Woman of the Year" Award in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this dedicated professional in her many accomplishments and awards, both professionally and personally:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate Yevonne S. Prewitt, an outstanding community volunteer, citizen and USDA Farm Service Agency employee, upon receiving the 1999 United States Department of Agriculture's Silver Plow Honor Award for Public Service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Yevonne S. Prewitt, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
