A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES TO ESTABLISH AN INTERIM ELECTRONIC MEDIA GOVERNMENT SERVICES COMMITTEE TO MAKE A STUDY AND REPORT TO THE 2001 REGULAR SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE.

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Legislature desires to promote economic development and efficient delivery of government services by encouraging governmental and private sector entities to conduct their business and transactions using electronic media; and

WHEREAS, electronic commerce will revolutionize government by cutting across organizational boundaries and introducing self-service models for citizens; and

WHEREAS, there should be established an E-Government Committee to initiate study, planning and implementation of electronic government services within the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby request the Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Technology Services to establish an E-Government Committee composed of representatives from Mississippi governmental entities, including, but not limited to, the following public officials or their designees: the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Secretary of State, the State Auditor, the Attorney General, the Commissioner of Insurance and the State Treasurer. The purpose of the E-Government Committee shall be to study the feasibility of developing electronic government services within the State of Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Office of the State Auditor, Performance Audit Division, will develop and provide a written progress report to the Legislature of the findings and recommendations of the E-Government Committee on or before January 4, 2001.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be certified by the Secretary of State to the state agencies named in this resolution.
