Senate Concurrent Resolution 546
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF BETTY J. BRUMFIELD, OF SUMMIT, MISSISSIPPI, RETIRED FAMILY PAGE EDITOR AT THE ENTERPRISE-JOURNAL AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Betty Jane Dial Brumfield of Summit, Mississippi, a retired family page editor at The Enterprise-Journal, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 1999; and
WHEREAS, Betty was a Wabash, Arkansas, native who moved to Pike County from Memphis in 1941, graduated from McComb High School and attended the Memphis Academy of Arts; and
WHEREAS, she was an active and dedicated member of Church of the Mediator for several years where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Altar Guild; and
WHEREAS, Betty was involved in community activities and worked with special children's activities at the Pike County Library, was a life member and past president of the Junior Auxiliary, past president of the Pike County Heart Association, was a 17-year Girl Scout leader, spent 18 years in the McComb Parent-Teacher Association, was a board member of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Mississippi Press Women and National Federation of Press Women, was a member of Colonial Dames XVII Century and was the 1975 Junior Auxiliary Azalea Ball Queen; and
WHEREAS, she began working at The Enterprise-Journal in 1963 and received several awards for work as the family page editor; and
WHEREAS, her daughter, Patsy Brumfield, is the long-time reading clerk and press secretary for the Mississippi Senate, and Patsy has recalled many stories about her mother's humorous character and that she was a fan of country music artist Willie Nelson; and
WHEREAS, Betty was the widow of Robert Love Brumfield, and other survivors include a son, Bill, daughter, Suzy and five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this wonderful person who touched many lives and was such a fine example of community and charitable spirit:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Betty J. Brumfield of Summit, Mississippi, and express the sympathy of the Legislature on her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this Resolution be presented to Patsy Brumfield on behalf of her mother's family, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
