A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KENNETH QUINN, SUPERINTENDENT OF THE NEW ALBANY PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT, UPON HIS SELECTION AS MISSISSIPPI'S SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR 2000.
WHEREAS, Perry Kenneth Quinn, Superintendent of the New Albany Public School District since 1992, has been selected as Mississippi's Superintendent of the Year 2000; and
WHEREAS, he was chosen for the honor by the Mississippi Association of School Administrators, where nominations were sent in to the state association from which one winner is selected to represent Mississippi in the national competition; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Quinn is the third Northeast Mississippi educator in a row that has been selected as the best school district leader in the state; and
WHEREAS, Quinn has spent 38 years in education, beginning his career in education in Kosciusko in 1962 and came to New Albany as a science teacher and coach in 1965, and for many years was assistant superintendent before becoming superintendent; and
WHEREAS, the nomination by the New Albany school board cited Quinn's "open-door policy" for all students, teachers, parents and the community as extremely commendable and for making students the most important priority in the school operation for the innovative strategies of instruction resulting in the significant growth in student academic performance; and
WHEREAS, during the 1998-1999 school year, the district was selected as one of the ten most improved districts in the State of Mississippi, earning the highest level 5.0 accreditation; and
WHEREAS, his ultimate goal is to have the New Albany schools become beacons of light for community literacy development, promoting responsible citizenship and community service and preparing children for higher education and the workplace; and
WHEREAS, Quinn is a native of Tippah County, graduated from Walnut High School, attended Northeast Mississippi Community College, received degrees from both Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi; he and his wife, Anna Quinn, are parents of two children and a granddaughter; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Quinn will be recognized for his achievement at the American Association of School Administrators to be held in San Francisco in March 2000; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this dedicated educator whose dedication has brought honor to his school district, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kenneth Quinn, Superintendent of the New Albany Public School District, upon his selection as Mississippi's Superintendent of the Year 2000, and wish him and the New Albany School District continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Superintendent Kenneth Quinn and his family, the Board of Trustees of the New Albany Separate School District, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
