A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING WEYERHAEUSER COMPANY FOR ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ECONOMY OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND CONGRATULATING WEYERHAEUSER COMPANY UPON THE CELEBRATION OF ITS CENTENNIAL DAY.
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company was founded in Tacoma, Washington, January 18, 1900; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company has grown to be an international forest products company employing 45,000 people in 13 countries; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company has operated continuously in Mississippi since 1956, and has more than 2,000 Mississippi employees dedicated to producing and delivering high-quality forest products; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company operates 17 separate factories or offices in Mississippi communities, stretching from Olive Branch to Magnolia; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company is a pioneer in sustainable forestry practices and currently owns and manages approximately 627,000 acres of forestland in Mississippi, making it one of the state's largest private landowners; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company manages its Mississippi forests for values other than timber production, such as wildlife habitat and recreation; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company is recognized as a global leader in environmentally responsible manufacturing; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company operations exemplify its theme, "The future is growing"; and
WHEREAS, Weyerhaeuser Company celebrated its Centennial on January 18, 2000; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize those organizations which have made contributions to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Weyerhaeuser Company for its contributions to the economy of the State of Mississippi and congratulate it upon the celebration of Weyerhaeuser Company Centennial Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Weyerhaeuser Company.
