AN ACT TO DESIGNATE CERTAIN SEGMENTS OF HIGHWAY IN FORREST AND LAMAR COUNTIES AS PART OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM AND TO PLACE SUCH SEGMENTS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE MISSISSIPPI TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FOR CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE; TO ESTABLISH A DEADLINE FOR THE LETTING OF CONTRACTS NECESSARY TO BE LET FOR COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION OF SUCH HIGHWAY SEGMENTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall construct to department design standards, may perform such reconstruction as may be required to existing highways and may acquire by gift, purchase or eminent domain proceedings such property as may be necessary to provide three (3) lanes for traffic on and along the following location:
Southern District - Forrest and Lamar Counties:
Sandy Run Road beginning from its intersection with U.S. Highway 98 and extending northerly to West 4th Street, thence along Jackson Road from West 4th Street to just west of Rawls Springs Loop Road, thence northeasterly along a new route from just west of Rawls Springs Loop Road to U.S. Highway 49.
(2) The mileage of highways specifically designated in subsection (1) of this section shall be under the jurisdiction of the Mississippi Transportation Commission for construction and maintenance and, together with the highways designated in Sections 65-3-3 and 65-3-5, and all other laws adding links to the state designated highway system, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi.
(3) All contracts necessary to be let for completion of all segments of the highways described in subsection (1) of this section shall be let no later than June 30, 2003.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
