AN ACT MAKING AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OF STATE GENERAL FUNDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE EXPENSES OF THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SUPREME COURT AND THE MISSISSIPPI COURT OF APPEALS; AND TO PAY EXPENSES OF SPECIAL JUDGES, CHANCELLORS AND CIRCUIT JUDGES, FOR FISCAL YEAR 2000.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. In addition to all other sums heretofore appropriated, the following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to defray the costs of salary increases for Mississippi Supreme Court Justices, Court of Appeals Judges, and Chancery and Circuit Judges, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000 $ 724,038.00.
The additional funds appropriated in this Section are provided for the purpose of funding salary increases authorized by Senate Bill No. 2479, 1999 Regular Session. The funds appropriated in this Section shall be allocated as follows:
Supreme Court.................$ 40,032.00.
Court of Appeals..............$ 44,480.00.
Trial Judges..................$ 639,526.00.
Total.........................$ 724,038.00.
SECTION 2. In addition to all other sums heretofore appropriated, the following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to defray the expenses of the special judges, chancellors and circuit judges, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000 $ 940,000.00.
The additional funds appropriated in this Section are provided to fund the increased amount allowed for employing support staff for Chancery and Circuit Judges from Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00) to Forty Thousand Dollars ($40,000.00) per year, as authorized by Senate Bill No. 2300, 1999 Regular Session.
SECTION 3. In addition to all other sums heretofore appropriated, the following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to defray the expenses of the Mississippi State Supreme Court and the Mississippi Court of Appeals for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2000
$ 319,000.00.
The additional funds appropriated in this Section are provided to fund the expense allowance, in lieu of travel reimbursements, for Mississippi Supreme Court Justices and Court of Appeals Judges, as authorized by Senate Bill No. 2303, 1999 Regular Session. The funds appropriated in this Section shall be allocated as follows:
Supreme Court..................$ 150,000.00.
Court of Appeals...............$ 169,000.00.
Total..........................$ 319,000.00.
SECTION 4. The money herein appropriated shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the proper fund or funds as set forth in this act, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.
SECTION 5. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
