AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE DEDUCTION OF DUES FROM THE SALARIES OF STATE SERVICE OR NONSTATE SERVICE EMPLOYEES UPON WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION OF THE EMPLOYEE; TO AMEND SECTION 37-9-49, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE THE DEDUCTION OF DUES FROM THE SALARIES OF CERTIFICATED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. It shall be lawful for the administrative head of any state agency to deduct or permit to be deducted from the salary of any state service or nonstate service employee any dues payable to any organization or association upon written authorization from the employee involved.
SECTION 2. Section 37-9-49, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
37-9-49. It shall be lawful for the superintendent of schools * * * to deduct or permit to be deducted from the salary of any superintendent, * * * principal or licensed employee any dues, fines or penalties payable or alleged to be payable because of the membership of such superintendent, * * * principal or licensed employee in any organization or association, with the written authorization of such employee involved. * * * Dues or premiums in health associations or corporations and tax sheltered annuity deductions authorized by the United States Internal Revenue Code may be deducted upon written authorization from the superintendent, * * * principal or licensed employee involved. * * *
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
