AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-73, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2001, ALL STATE AND NONSTATE SERVICE EMPLOYEES SHALL BE PAID TWICE A MONTH IN A TIMELY MANNER AND SHALL NOT BE PAID ON A DELAYED BASIS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 25-3-73, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

25-3-73. From and after January 1, 2001, all state and nonstate service employees as defined in Section 25-9-107, Mississippi Code of 1972, shall be paid * * * twice a month in a timely manner and shall not be paid on a delayed basis. If such employees' payday falls on a state holiday as set forth in Section 3-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, or on a Saturday or Sunday, such employees shall be paid on the working day preceding such holiday, Saturday or Sunday.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
