A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. ELIZABETH CRISLER FUGATE UPON HER RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Elizabeth Crisler Fugate is retiring after many years of dedicated service to the people of the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Fugate, a native of Raymond, Mississippi, received an Associate of Arts degree from Hinds Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millsaps College; and
WHEREAS, in 1947, Mrs. Fugate began her career in Washington, D.C., where she served as the Confidential Executive Secretary to then Congressman John Bell Williams and in 1968, Governor of Mississippi, where she was responsible for daily operations and schedules for his offices; and
WHEREAS, throughout her long and distinguished career, Mrs. Fugate has served as the Confidential Executive Secretary to five State Treasurers including Brad Dye, Edwin Lloyd Pittman, John L. Dale, William J. Cole and Marshall G. Bennett; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Fugate has been responsible for meeting thousands of visitors to the Nation's Capitol, the State Capitol and the State Treasurer's Office, including political leaders from all over the world and school children of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, an active member of her community, Mrs. Fugate is actively involved as a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson and as a member and recording secretary of the Heritage Luncheon Club of Jackson; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Fugate's sparkling personality and vivacious manner has enabled her to serve with distinction as a goodwill ambassador for our state; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Fugate has been lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her husband, John Paul Fugate; her two children, Susan and Robert; and five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mrs. Fugate, whose dedicated service to the elected officials and citizens of this state will forever be remembered:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Elizabeth Crisler Fugate upon her retirement and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Elizabeth Crisler Fugate, the National Association of State Treasurer's and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
