A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISS TAKIYAH PERKINS FOR HER OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS.
WHEREAS, Miss Takiyah Perkins, born March 1982, has received numerous honors and awards for her outstanding academic achievements; and
WHEREAS, Miss Perkins, a senior at Greenwood High School, is a member of the Pride Team, a featured dancer for the Greenwood High School Band and President of the Senior Class; and
WHEREAS, in addition, Miss Perkins is a member of the United States History Club, the Student Government Association, the National Honor Society and has been an Excel Student for four years at Greenwood High School; and
WHEREAS, an active member of her community, Miss Perkins is a member of the Leflore County NAACP, Greenwood Voters League, Lions Club Youth Leadership Seminar and has a brown belt in Tae-Kwon-Do; and
WHEREAS, Miss Perkins has been recognized by the Kappa Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., as 1999 Miss Fashionetta; won First Place in the Elks Oratorical Contest in Leflore County; and won First Place in the Essay Contest for District 3 of the M.H.S.A.A.; and
WHEREAS, Miss Perkins, a remarkable student, has received several scholarships including the scholarship for the Second Congressional District of the Minority Caucus of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors, the Top Lawyer Scholarship for the Greenwood Mock Trial Team during the Magnolia Bar Association Mock Trial Competition and the Educational Scholarship for the Leflore County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Miss Perkins has served as a Page for the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1994 to 2000; and
WHEREAS, Miss Perkins will attend Tougaloo College in the Fall of 2000, majoring in political science with aspirations of becoming a lawyer, state legislator and the first female President of the United States; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young men and women of this state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Takiyah Perkins for her many outstanding academic achievements and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Takiyah Perkins and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
