A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. JOSH CHANEY ON BEING NAMED THE 1999 BELLSOUTH MALE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AT THE 1999 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Mr. Josh Chaney, a resident of Newton, Mississippi, was named the 1999 BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year, which is a program that strives to honor athletes who represent pride in personal achievement, physical fitness and teamwork along with exemplary motivation, attitude, sportsmanship and a true spirit of competition; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney has competed in the State Games of Mississippi in 1997, 1998 and 1999 as a member of the Newton County High School Basketball Team, and as a member of an All-Star Baseball Team in 1998 and 1999; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney was a member of the 1999 Newton County High School Basketball Team which prevailed over all other teams entered and won the Gold Medal; and

WHEREAS, Josh Chaney participates in athletics for the positive influence, sense of accomplishment and as a means of building his character in a spirit of competition; and

WHEREAS, exemplifying sportsmanship, effort and a positive attitude, Mr. Chaney was chosen the 1999 BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year for his outstanding athletic accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, the House of Representatives finds it most appropriate to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Josh Chaney of Newton, Mississippi, on being named the 1999 BellSouth Male Sportsman of the Year at the 1999 State Games of Mississippi, and extend our heartiest wishes to him for every success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Josh Chaney and the Capitol Press Corps.
