House Resolution 12

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. DEXTER MCCLEON UPON HIS OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

WHEREAS, Mr. Dexter McCleon, a native of Meridian, Mississippi, has achieved many outstanding accomplishments in his football career; and

WHEREAS, as a junior quarterback at Meridian High School, Mr. McCleon led his team to the Class 5A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCleon received numerous awards for his high school athletic performance including being named Player of the Year in Baseball by the Meridian Star High School All-Area Team; his selection as the Co-Athlete of the Year by Wendy's and Q-101; and receiving the Skedes Athletic Award for Outstanding Senior Athlete; and

WHEREAS, in addition, Mr. McCleon played in the Shrine Classic All-Star Football Game in Mobile, Alabama; named Most Outstanding Offensive Player in the Mississippi Challenge All-Star Game and named ACC offensive and defensive player of the year in the same season; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Meridian High School in 1992, Mr. McCleon signed a full athletic scholarship to play football at Clemson University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in management in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCleon was invited to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, and invited to participate in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, in February 1997, to prepare for the NFL Draft; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCleon, a second round draft pick by the St. Louis Rams in April 1997, led his team to an outstanding victory in Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 30, 2000:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Dexter McCleon upon his outstanding athletic accomplishments and extend heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Dexter McCleon and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
