A RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. NORMA SOLOMON WHITE UPON HER SPEAKING AT THE BETA DELTA OMEGA CHAPTER OF THE ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY FOUNDER'S DAY ON FEBRUARY 13, 2000.

WHEREAS, Dr. Norma Solomon White will speak at the Beta Delta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Founder's Day Program on February 13, 2000, at the Central United Methodist Church in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Dr. White, the twenty-fifth International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, established the 1998-2000 theme "Blazing New Trails - The Alpha Kappa Alpha Way," reflecting an international program focusing on global leadership development and targeting the areas of the arts, education, economics, family and health; and

WHEREAS, Dr. White, a resident of Jacksonville, Florida, has served the sorority in several leadership positions including international vice president, chairman of the personnel committee and as South Atlantic regional director; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Dr. White has been a school administrator, assistant principal, band director and instrumental coordinator; and

WHEREAS, Dr. White is a member of the board of directors for several organizations such as the United Negro College Fund, the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation, the Florida Society for the Prevention of Blindness, and the Girls, Incorporated; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her outstanding achievements, Dr. White has received a citation by the Governor of Florida, a resolution by the Jacksonville City Council, the "EVE" Award in the Fine Arts, a Leadership Citation by American Express, the Miss Black International Woman of the Year Award and the Trailblazers Award, presented by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; and

WHEREAS, Dr. White has published several articles, including "So Now You're Elected" and "Program, the Heart" and has coauthored "Instrumental Music Guide," "Team Teaching Guide" and "Junior High Curriculum Guide"; and

WHEREAS, Dr. White has been lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her mother, Mrs. Ruth Solomon, her son, Marcel, and granddaughter, Danielle:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Dr. Norma Solomon White upon speaking at the Beta Delta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Founder's Day Program on February 13, 2000, and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Norma Solomon White and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
