A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISS KIMBERLY DICKARD ON BEING NAMED MISSISSIPPI'S TOP MIDDLE LEVEL STUDENT VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR IN THE 2000 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Miss Kimberly Dickard, an esteemed resident of Ridgeland, Mississippi, and a student at Olde Towne Middle School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by being named Mississippi's Top Level Student Volunteer of the Year in the 2000 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by The Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and
WHEREAS, Miss Dickard earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy to "Students Erasing Crime," a volunteer student service organization which she founded; and
WHEREAS, members of "S.E.C." participated in activities such as researching anti-tobacco issues, peer mediation, mentoring programs and fund raising for organizations including the Salvation Army, Animal Shelter and other local charities; and
WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi, the strength of our communities and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Miss Dickard, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Kimberly Dickard on being named Mississippi's Top Level Student Volunteer of the Year in 2000 Prudential Spirit of Community Award and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Kimberly Dickard and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
