House Concurrent Resolution 13
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DR. WRIGHT L. LASSITER, SR., AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright L. Lassiter, Sr., of Vicksburg, Mississippi, departed this life on Sunday, January 2, 2000, causing great loss to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lassiter attended the United Theological Seminary, earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Biblical studies from the Mississippi Baptist Seminary and received an honorary doctorate of divinity from Natchez College; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lassiter served as pastor of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and Bingham Memorial Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and the Little Zion Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, before entering into the ministry, Dr. Lassiter worked as a brick mason and was active in the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lassiter devoted much of his time and energy to community service, having generously served as a founding board member and Dean Emeritus of the Vicksburg Center of the Mississippi Baptist Seminary, a retired trustee of the Hinds Community College Vicksburg-Warren County campus, a board member of the Warren County Missionary Baptist Association and the General Missionary Baptist Mississippi Convention, a former Vice President of the Progressive Baptist Mississippi Convention, a member of the Warren County Election Commission staff, a former President of the Warren County Minister Alliance and a member of the D.W. Simmons Brotherhood Relief Club; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lassiter is survived by his lovely wife, Ethel, 10 children, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and pay special tribute to such outstanding Mississippians as Dr. Wright L. Lassiter, a remarkable man who dedicated 45 years of his life to the ministry:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and accomplishments of Dr. Wright L. Lassiter, Sr., and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Dr. Wright L. Lassiter, Sr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
