A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING KEN PARVIN UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL OFFICIAL FOR FIFTY YEARS.

WHEREAS, Mr. Ken Parvin, a member of the Gulf Coast Officials Association since 1949, has decided to retire after 50 years of dedicated and committed service as a high school football coach, having the most years of service known in the history of the Gulf Coast Officials Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Parvin confined his officiating to high school football with the exception of a minimal amount of college work for Millsaps and Mississippi College, but high school games have always been his first love; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Parvin faced new situations each year which made officiating interesting and prompted him to continue to study the rule book as if it were his Holy Bible; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Parvin was a referee in all the games he officiated and was in overall charge of the crew, making all the final decisions when necessary; and

WHEREAS, in October 1967, he decided to open Ken's Ball and Cue in Gulfport, a pool room that he wanted to make available for families, as he allows no smoking, gambling, loitering or alcoholic beverages; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Parvin and his lovely wife, Betty, are members of First Baptist Church in Gulfport where they have been members for 16 years; and

WHEREAS, Ken and Betty have five children, Shirley, Debra, Ken, Jr., Cindy and Janine:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the accomplishments of Mr. Ken Parvin for his example of a remarkable and dedicated coach whose long and distinguished career epitomizes a life rich in achievement and service to his community.
