AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE TOWN OF PRENTISS, MISSISSIPPI, TO IMPOSE ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS ON MISDEMEANOR CONVICTIONS, THE AVAILS OF WHICH SHALL BE USED TO FUND CRIME STOPPERS, INC.; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The governing authorities of the Town of Prentiss, Mississippi, are hereby authorized and empowered, in its discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered into on its minutes, to levy additional court costs in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor conviction obtained in the municipal court of such municipality.
(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the municipality to Crime Stoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Prentiss, Mississippi.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
