House Bill 1723
AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF LINCOLN COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH CRIMINAL CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE JUSTICE AND CIRCUIT COURTS OF SUCH COUNTY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE PAID TO CRIME STOPPERS OF LINCOLN COUNTY AND THE LINCOLN COUNTY ANTI-DRUG TASK FORCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Lincoln County, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed Five Dollars ($5.00) per case, for each criminal case processed through the justice and circuit courts of Lincoln County.
(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the county, in any proportion deemed appropriate by the board of supervisors, to Crime Stoppers of Lincoln County and the Lincoln County Anti-Drug Task Force, for use in crime prevention, drug education and in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Lincoln County, Mississippi.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
