AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 49-7-87, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO ALLOW GREEN SUNFISH TO BE SOLD AS BAIT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 49-7-87, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
49-7-87. (1) It is unlawful for any person to sell, offer for sale or exchange any game fish enumerated in this chapter whether taken within or coming from without the state. However, the commission may issue a permit to the owner of a private pond to sell fish grown or cultivated by the owner under any regulations * * * the commission may prescribe.
(2) Green sunfish less than four (4) inches in length may be sold as bait. Green sunfish sold as bait may be taken by any method prescribed by the commission. The commission shall prescribe the methods that may be used for taking green sunfish as bait.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
