AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO IMPLEMENT A SUMMER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR AT-RISK CHILDREN; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The school board of a local school district, in its discretion, may develop and implement a summer school enrichment program for at-risk children. Under the program, students identified as at risk by the teachers and principal of a school shall be presented an opportunity for academic enrichment or remediation in reading, math and any other subject authorized by the school board. Any funds other than Minimum Education Program or Adequate Education Program funds may be expended by the school district for the support of the summer school enrichment program.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2000.
