Senate Concurrent Resolution 538

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO ENCOURAGE A SUSTAINED EFFORT TO BETTER UNDERSTAND AND ADDRESS THE CHALLENGE OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE AMONG MISSISSIPPI YOUTH; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

WHEREAS, each year approximately 3,000 Mississippi children find themselves in the criminal justice system for offenses related to drug and/or alcohol abuse; and

WHEREAS, approximately 12.5% of all cases referred annually to Mississippi youth courts involve drug and/or alcohol-related offenses; and

WHEREAS, drug and alcohol abuse among Mississippi children continue to constitute a serious and detrimental challenge to their development into responsible, productive and happy citizens of this great state; and

WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Legislature to make every effort to avert the detriment to young lives, and society at large, stemming from youthful abuse of drugs and alcohol:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby encourage, in every way possible, a sustained effort to better understand and effectively address the challenge of drug and alcohol abuse among Mississippi youth.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be released to the Capitol Press Corps.
