House Concurrent Resolution 85


WHEREAS, Miss Jennifer Leigh Adcock has been selected as the 1998 Miss Junior Miss; and

WHEREAS, Miss Adcock, originally from Biloxi, Mississippi, is the daughter of Jesse and Janet Adcock of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, in June 1997, Miss Adcock was chosen as Lamar County's Junior Miss, qualifying her to participate in the Mississippi Junior Miss Program in Meridian in November 1997; and

WHEREAS, during the preliminary competition of the Mississippi Junior Miss Program, Miss Adcock was a winner in Physical Fitness, Presence and Composure, and Creative and Performing Arts; and

WHEREAS, on November 8, 1997, Miss Adcock was selected as Mississippi's Junior Miss for 1998, and was named the overall winner in Creative and Performing Arts; and

WHEREAS, Miss Adcock, as Mississippi's Junior Miss, will represent our state at the America's Junior Miss Program in Mobile, Alabama, in June 1998; and

WHEREAS, playing the piano for her Creative and Performing Arts competition, Miss Adcock has studied piano for 11 years and been awarded Superior rating in numerous competitions; and

WHEREAS, Miss Adcock is currently a senior at Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where she actively participates in various organizations including the Mu Alpha Theta Honorary Society, the Beta Club, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Interact Club, the Oak Grove High School Golden Spirits Dance Team and the Oak Grove High School Warrior Band and Dance Team; and

WHEREAS, receiving many honors throughout high school, Miss Adcock has been an honor roll student at Oak Grove High School, a member of the Scholar Program, was selected for Who's Who in American High Schools, was chosen as Oak Grove High School Beauty in 1997, was named Oak Grove High School Most Beautiful in 1998, and served as a page for the Mississippi Senate in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Miss Adcock has represented her state in several state and national performances, having participated in the Mississippi Music Teachers' Association State Special Recognition Recital for seven years, the American All-Star Dance Team in 1996 and the American All-Star International Goodwill Tour Performance in London in 1996; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi finds it most appropriate to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Jennifer Leigh Adcock of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on being chosen as Mississippi's Junior Miss for 1998, and we extend our best wishes for the upcoming America's Junior Miss competition in June as she represents our state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Jennifer Leigh Adcock and the Capitol Press Corps.
