Senate Resolution 31


WHEREAS, Tommy Bourne, a native of Franklin County, Mississippi, and the son of Louise Speights Bourne and the late T.R. (Pat) Bourne, departed this life Friday, February 26, 1997; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Bourne was a deputy sheriff for Jefferson Davis County; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Bourne was an avid turkey hunter and was champion turkey caller for the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Bourne was president and founder of the Miss/Lou Wild Turkey Foundation and a member of The National Wild Turkey Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Bourne was active in his community, serving as a girls softball coach, was a 2nd Degree Mason and a member of the Prentiss Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, his community and the citizens of the entire State of Mississippi were shocked at Tommy Bourne's untimely and tragic death in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, hundreds of law enforcement officers from every agency in the state and from the States of Alabama, Florida and Tennessee converged to honor their fallen comrade; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Bourne is a part of the rich legacy of the law enforcement officers to whom the citizens of this state owe a debt that cannot be paid; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Bourne is survived by his wife, Pam Hurst Bourne; one son, Pat Bourne; two daughters, Shields Bourne and Leigh Bourne; his mother, Louise Bourne; one brother, Tommy Ray Bourne, all of Prentiss; two sisters, Priscilla Arnold and Patty Jo May, both of Natchez; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the meritorious service of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That we do hereby commend the life of Deputy Sheriff Tommy Bourne and express our deepest sympathy to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tommy Bourne.
