A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LOYD STAR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM, THE HORNETS, FOR A PERFECT 11-0 REGULAR SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the Loyd Star High School football team, the Hornets, completed a perfect 11-0 regular season; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets are the first team to finish a regular season undefeated; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets are Opossum Bowl champions, Lincoln County champions and Division 6-2A champions; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets were led by nine All Division 6-2A players: Cory Boyd, Jody Brett, Chad Calcote, Randolf Falvey, Dee Ready, DeWayne Smith, Neal Thomas, Maurice Townsend and Michael Warren; and

WHEREAS, Maurice Townsend garnered offensive Most Valuable Player and Dee Ready garnered defensive Most Valuable Player in Division 6-2A; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets finished Number 3 in scoring defense and offense in Division 6-2A; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets were ranked Number 8 in the state by the Associated Press and Number 5 in 2A schools by The Clarion-Ledger; and

WHEREAS, the Hornets were well coached by Coach Roe Burns, All Division 6-2A Coach of the Year, and assistant coaches, Ricky Myers and Ricky Smith; and

WHEREAS, it is a rare accomplishment for a football team to go undefeated during the regular season:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Loyd Star High School football team, the Hornets, for having a perfect 11-0 regular season.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Loyd Star High School football team, the Hornets.
