Senate Resolution 16
A RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS, THE UNITED NATIONS AND SECRETARY OF STATE MADELINE ALBRIGHT TO SUPPORT A STRONG NATIONAL SECURITY OF ISRAEL.
WHEREAS, the nations of Levant have endured centuries of warfare and misery owing to the mistrust and refusal of all parties to work together for peace for all; and
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Senate believes that progress on the peace process in the Middle East is vitally important to United States security interests in the region; and
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Senate recognizes that, in fulfilling its obligations under the Treaty of Peace Between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Israel (March 26, 1979), Israel incurred severe economic burdens; and
WHEREAS, in 1995, the State of Mississippi exported $156 Million of goods and services to the nation of Israel; and
WHEREAS, an economically and militarily secure Israel serves the security interests of the United States, for a secure Israel is an Israel which has the incentive and confidence to continue pursuing the peace process; and
WHEREAS, the people of Mississippi encourage and entreat the peoples of the Levant and its Hinterlands to abide themselves in a peaceable spirit of cooperation and trust with all neighboring communities:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby memorialize the United States Congress, the United Nations and Secretary of State Madeline Albright to support a strong national security of Israel.
