A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. OLENE MOORE UPON HER SELECTION AS UNION, MISSISSIPPI'S 1997 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Olene Moore was recently selected as Union, Mississippi's 1997 Citizen of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore is a hardworking, active member of the First Baptist Church in Union, Mississippi, the Present Day Club and the Union Chamber of Commerce, who is widely recognized for her volunteer activities throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore works in social services at Laird Hospital, helping patients and their relatives in any way possible with services ranging from finding scarce nursing home beds to explaining available benefits or the importance of a will; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore does not stop giving to others when she's not at the hospital because when she's not there she's heavily involved in assisting in a free meal program that provides lunch for persons who are 55 years of age or older; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore became involved with the Mississippi Council on Aging when she joined the East Central Planning and Development District in 1982 after she retired from 30 years of teaching; and
WHEREAS, she retired from the planning district in 1992, but did not stay retired for long, going to work for Laird Hospital in the same year; and
WHEREAS, she has spent most of her life in Union, Mississippi, where she has always been active in community service and personally involved with those who are in need of help and comfort; and
WHEREAS, her active and involved life serves as a sterling example to members of her community and to all citizens of the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Olene Moore upon her selection as Union, Mississippi's 1997 Citizen of the Year and upon her sterling example of citizenship at its best.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be provided to Mrs. Olene Moore.
