A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ROGER P. FRIOU UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM JITNEY JUNGLE STORES OF AMERICA, INC. 

WHEREAS, Roger P. Friou, a native of Tupelo, Mississippi, has recently retired from the position of President of Jitney Jungle Stores of America, Inc., a regional supermarket chain based in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Roger P. Friou is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting; and

WHEREAS, a certified public accountant, Friou began his business career with Standard Oil of California in 1958, was employed with the public accounting firm of Ernst & Ernst from 1960 through 1966, and moved to Jitney Jungle in 1968 as Controller; and

WHEREAS, at Jitney Jungle, Roger P. Friou was promoted to Vice-President of Finance in 1970 and to Executive Vice-President in 1976, but left Jitney Jungle to become a senior officer with a national discount store chain from 1979 through 1984; and

WHEREAS, in 1984, Friou rejoined Jitney Jungle and served as Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer until 1991, Vice-Chairman and Chief Financial Officer from 1991 to March 1996, and President from March 1996 until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Roger P. Friou continues to serve as a Director of Jitney Jungle and Parkway Properties, Inc., a publicly-traded real estate investment trust based in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Roger P. Friou is active in community service, serving as President of the Jackson Rotary Club, Director of the University of Mississippi Foundation, and Advisory Director of St. Dominics Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Roger P. Friou is married to the former Suellen Street of Alexandria, Louisiana, and has two sons, who are also certified public accountants; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the exemplary service of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Roger P. Friou upon his retirement from Jitney Jungle Stores of America, Inc.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Roger P. Friou and made available to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
