Senate Concurrent Resolution 578

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE BASSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 1996-1997 SEASON.
WHEREAS, the Bassfield High School boys basketball team completed the 1996-1997 season with an enviable record of 22 wins and 7 losses; and
WHEREAS, the Yellowjackets competed well in tournament play, winning the Pinebelt Conference Tournament, the Taylorsville Invitational Tournament, the Bassfield Invitational Tournament, the District 7-3A Tournament, and losing the first round at the South State Championship Tournament; and
WHEREAS, the diligent effort of these fine young men enabled them to fully tap their athletic abilities and achieve their season objectives; and
WHEREAS, the superb play of the team should be attributed to all team members, including Neal Broome who was selected District 7-3A Most Valuable Player and received a Division 1 Scholarship Offer; and
WHEREAS, the Bassfield High School Yellowjackets were well coached by Coach Jeff Vanderheiden, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, the Yellowjackets played together as a team with a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the outstanding achievements of the youth of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bassfield High School boys basketball team for its outstanding 1996-1997 season.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Bassfield High School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
