Senate Concurrent Resolution 521
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING FINANCIAL AID AWARENESS MONTH.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Inc. (MASFAA), during its July, 1996, transition Executive Board meeting, decided to have January, 1997, declared Mississippi Financial Aid Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, this idea has been fully supported by the Mississippi Community/Junior College Board, Mississippi PTA Association, Mississippi Counselors Association, Mississippi Association of Independent Colleges, Mississippi Association of Colleges, Mississippi State Superintendent of Education, Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), and Mississippi Higher Education Assistance Corporation (MHEAC); and
WHEREAS, financial aid serves more than 100,000 Mississippians through grants, scholarships, loans, work study, etc., made possible through federal, state, local and private funds; and
WHEREAS, January is the month in which prospective recipients can first begin applying for financial aid; and
WHEREAS, Financial Aid Awareness Month is designed to promote awareness of various opportunities for financial assistance available to qualifying citizens of Mississippi through federal, state and institutional resources; and
WHEREAS, without financial aid many prospective students would be unable to attend universities, colleges, community/junior colleges or proprietary schools; and
WHEREAS, Governor Kirk Fordice has issued a Proclamation declaring January, 1997, to be Financial Aid Awareness Month:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize January, 1997, as Financial Aid Awareness Month.
