AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF GRENADA TO PAY A PER DIEM IN LIEU OF SALARY TO ELECTED OFFICIALS OF THE CITY WHO ARE RECEIVING A RETIREMENT ALLOWANCE FROM THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The governing authorities of the City of Grenada, Mississippi, are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to pay to any elected official of the city who is a retired member of the Public Employees' Retirement System drawing a retirement allowance from that system in lieu of a salary from the city, a per diem which shall equal in the aggregate each month one-half (1/2) of the amount of salary to which such elected official would otherwise be entitled were he not a retired member of the Public Employees' Retirement System receiving his duly earned retirement allowance from such system in lieu of a salary from the city. Any amounts paid by the city to individuals pursuant to this act shall not be construed to be a salary.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
