House Resolution 42
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MAGNOLIA HEIGHTS SCHOOL LADY CHIEFS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1996-1997 SEASON.
WHEREAS, the Magnolia Heights School Lady Chiefs Basketball Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an outstanding record of 33 wins and only 5 losses; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chiefs did very well in tournament play this year, winning the MPSA North Half AA Championship, Magnolia Heights School Memorial Classic, Fayette, Tennessee, All-Girls Tournament and the MPSA District 1-AA Tournament, finishing second in the MPSA State AA Tournament and in the MPSA Overall Tournament; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play, including the naming of Laura Leigh Price, Misty Burford, Katie McLeod and Ivana Lukic to the All-Conference Team, and the selection of Blair Malone and Hayley Mock to Honorable Mention All-Conference Team; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chiefs have been well coached and inspired by Coach James R. Patterson, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, Coach Patterson has brought additional honor to himself and to the school by being selected as the MPSA District 1-AA Coach of the Year and MPSA A - AA Head Coach North All-Star Team; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chiefs have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to their school; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Magnolia Heights School Lady Chiefs Basketball Team and their coach, James R. Patterson, for their outstanding 1996-1997 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Magnolia Heights School, Coach James R. Patterson and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
