A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WEST UNION HIGH SCHOOL LADY EAGLES GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1996-1997 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the West Union High School Lady Eagles Girls Basketball Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an outstanding record of 34 wins and 3 losses; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles did very well in tournament play this year, winning the Class 1A State Championship, West Union Round Robin, Myrtle Tournament, finishing second in the Union County Tournament and in the District Tournament and being named 1A North Half Champions; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play, including the naming of Crystal Young, Julie Downs, Tara Kirk and Jill Goolsby to All-District; Jennifer Carter, Crystal Young, Jill Goolsby and Julie Downs to All-North Half; and the selection of Jill Goolsby, Tara Kirk and Crystal Young to All-State; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Ken Basil, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their sills in execution; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to their school; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the West Union High School Lady Eagles Girls Basketball Team and their Head Coach Ken Basil, for their outstanding 1996-1997 season for winning the State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to West Union High School, Coach Ken Basil and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
