House Concurrent Resolution 138

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING JOE F. BARLOW UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF JACKSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT. 

WHEREAS, on December 31, 1996, Joe F. Barlow, a prime mover in the development of the St. Martin School System during the past 20 years, retired from his position as Assistant Superintendent of the Jackson County School District; and

WHEREAS, charged with overseeing the St. Martin School System, Joe Barlow is credited with bringing about the vast improvements made to the school's athletic facilities, particularly the football stadium and its artificial track and the baseball field, during his tenure with the school district; and

WHEREAS, in honor of his positive influence and countless contributions to the school, in November of 1996, the St. Martin School System proudly renamed the St. Martin Football Stadium the "Joe F. Barlow Stadium"; and

WHEREAS, always present to support the students and coaches at football, baseball and basketball games, as well as working the pressbox at school-sponsored track meets, Joe Barlow's influence in the St. Martin School System extends far beyond the improvements to the school's athletic facilities made under his outstanding leadership abilities; and

WHEREAS, Joe Barlow, widely respected as a strict and stern but fair educator and administrator, is known for always having positive words of encouragement for the students and coaches; and

WHEREAS, encouraging all kids to succeed in their endeavors, Joe Barlow never short-changed any of the sports at St. Martin, whether considered major or minor; and

WHEREAS, having touched the lives of many people throughout his years at St. Martin, Joe Barlow, affectionately remembered as "Mr. St. Martin" by the students and their families, faculty and staff, leaves an indelible impression on the school system which will be enjoyed by all for years to come; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend excellence, especially when evidenced by an outstanding educator such as Joe F. Barlow, who humbly dedicated so many years of his life to furthering the education of the youth of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Joe F. Barlow upon his retirement as Assistant Superintendent of the Jackson County School District and extend to him our heartiest wishes for many years of good health, peace, happiness and joy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Joe F. Barlow, the St. Martin School System and the Capitol Press Corps.
