A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE VAIDEN 4-H CLUB STARS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PEOPLE OF CARROLL COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the Vaiden 4-H Club Stars, the pride of Carroll County, was organized in 1994 by a group of concerned leaders and parents, including Susie McKinney, Gail Thomas, Shirley Thomas, Stevie Jones, Joann Burkhead, Shirley Phillips and Mattie McIntosh; and
WHEREAS, the 4-H Stars applied for their first funds through a grant in the fall of 1994 from which they received monies to learn about recycling of plastics/bottles into beautiful outerwear fabrics, a project which took the club members and leaders to Dyersburg, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, as a result of their visit to Dyersburg, they had the opportunity to purchase fabric and to construct vests for exhibit at the county and state fairs and dress revues where Jackie Thomas, Amy Burkhead and Ivy Burkhead were recognized as top winners; and
WHEREAS, Amy Burkhead was named a top winner in the "Make It Yourself With Wool" and was awarded the national trip to Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, during State 4-H Congress, Amy Burkhead and Ivy Burkhead completed 4-H record books that won them a trip to the National 4-H Congress held in Memphis; and
WHEREAS, the 4-H Stars have been very active in many community pride projects including cleaning scenic routes, planting crepe myrtles at the Vaiden courthouse and involving Carroll County senior citizens in playing bingo for prizes of personal care items; and
WHEREAS, some of the dedicated leaders who devoted time from their busy lives to reach out to these youth were Drew Lenard who assisted the club in constructing 23 bluebird houses; Mrs. Ruby Jones who helped the group paint sweatshirts; and Mrs. Susie McKinney who was named the 1996 Outstanding 4-H Volunteer of the Year for the North Central Area; and
WHEREAS, the Vaiden 4-H Club Stars, who find time to achieve in school, church and recreational activities, work together to fulfill the 4-H slogan "to make the best better":
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Vaiden 4-H Club Stars for their outstanding accomplishments in bettering their community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be furnished to the Vaiden 4-H Club Stars.
